Elvis Presley Would Only Look At Priscilla If She Were Wearing Makeup – Considered Herself A “Living Doll”
Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, was married long-term to his love Priscilla, and everything about their relationship, wedding, and marriage looked perfect.
However, the perfection seen by the public was not the case. After Elvis’s death, Priscilla Presley made some surprising revelations about her relationship with the superstar.
Meeting and Falling in Love
Priscilla met Elvis when she was just 14 years old. They met September 13, 1959, when Elvis was on tour in Germany. They were both smitten with each other, and they spent as much time as they could together until he returned to the US in 1960.
The distance did not stop them from communicating until Priscilla could travel to visit him a few years later. The two love birds eventually married on May 2, 1967 at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas.
An Unconventional Wedding
Their wedding was quite unconventional—it lasted only eight minutes before moving into a press conference and then a reception. It looked like the young couple just wanted to be together without getting married.
“We were perfectly satisfied the way we were, but at that time, two unmarried people living together was frowned upon,” Priscilla said. Colonel Parker, Elvis’s manager, convinced them to get married; he wanted Elvis to sustain the moral clause in his record deal. They had a daughter, Lisa Marie, nine months after the wedding.
Spilling the Beans
In 2016, Priscilla revealed some private details of her relationship with the singer. She admitted that during their marriage, Elvis never saw her without her makeup. She always had a little bit on.
He never wanted to see her getting dressed; he was only interested in the end result. She also had little say in the clothes she wore. The famous musician followed her on all her shopping trips and was there when she picked her clothes.
Living as a Doll
She said Elvis had picked out her clothes and makeup since he started courting her. He always selected items that would make her look more mature than she was. She said she went as far as calling herself his “living doll.”
Eventually, Priscilla became tired of how Elvis treated and behaved towards her and their relationship. She filed for a divorce, but she said she was still very much in love with him.
